Thanks a lot for your answers!

I have all files (1.mol, jmol.js, appletfiles, html file) in one directory.
I cleared java cache
No chance!

I get always the same: file not found! Jmol looks always for open the mol-file
in my desktop directory! Regardless form the place, were the mol-files and the
other files are (e.g. I put all files in: d:\Test\ )

I cannot use a webserver, because the chemistry book should run on any
notebook or PC) -I distribute the book on a CDRom!
The JSmol version perhaps is also not a good idea, because no webserver and
locally files !?
Any Idea?

Greetings from Vienna
Klaus

Hello, Klaus

Welcome to Jmol!

Your situation looks reasonable and should work.

It is true that recent Java updates are causing trouble due to new security
policies. I would say that having all files in the same folder is safe even for
current policies.

In my system, running Jmol applets in pages form local disk has stopped
working. Java is blocked, and says so. I have found no solution yet other than
running a local webserver. But your error message is different.

That's possible, due to new security rules.

You example code looks good to me and I see no reason why it should look for
the mol file in Desktop. It should work in the folder where the html page and
the Jmol files are.

Try:

- clear the Java cache and reload the pages:
http://wiki.jmol.org/index.php/Troubleshooting/Java_Problems#Java_cach
e

- change the name of the molfile and see it it helps (maybe the 1 is doing
something funny)

That is an option, and more future-proof. At least if your molecules
are not very large it works very well.
On the other hand, running JSmol pages from local disk may have
difficulties, it needs a web server for some tasks.

That is true. But note there are no such "Java scripts" involved, it
is Javascript, a different language that runs in the browser --like
what Jmol.js uses, only now (in JSmol) it is also used for rendering
the graphics.
And yes it works in Windows or Mac or Linux as well as Android and
iOS

If you decide on trying JSmol, read instructions at
