You are almost there. drop the PRINT command part:

Jmol.evaluate(jmolApplet, "{atomNo=" + atomNo + "}.label");

or

Jmol.evaluate(jmolApplet, "@" + atomNo + ".label");

Note that you can use label() or label("..some format stuff here...")
