Dear Bob,

I noticed in your announcement of 14.2.11 something about "translucent -1".

Indeed I see that in this version, "color translucent -1" (for spacefill) is about equivalent to "color translucent 4".

For me this is a *major loss*.

For spacefilled views, translucent -1 was really the only useable translucence, and very useful indeed. I have some views in Proteopedia, for example, that utilize the old -1 mode. Oh, I just checked the ones showing electrostatic potential color translucent surfaces for water -- they are no longer working. Very sad -- they were so clear and beautiful!

In fact, for years, I have though about suggesting that for spacefill, -1 style translucence should be the default. I find the "cluster of grapes" effect in "translucent 6", for example, to be useless for spacefill. And in my experience, spacefill is the most common display where I find translucence to be useful.

So I am making a *strong plea* that "translucent -1" (old mode) be restored!

Sincerely, Eric
