It is my understanding that features like chain ID, residue name and number 
are hardcoded at the beginning, when the pdb file is initially read and parsed, 
and cannot be reprocessed later. (Based on some former post)

I understood that. But changing the code shouldn't be too hard, should it?

from "chainID=A" to "chainA"
or "*:A" to "chainA"
