Hi Guys
I got this e-mail from Ahmed from MS .He's the same dude who gave the
.Net presentation two (???) years ago at one of our talks.
Let me know if you're interested .

Hi Jeffrey

I hope you are well. I am not sure if you remember me ? I presented a
.NET session to the Java user group in Cape Town a while ago.

Reason for the email: Microsoft is hosting a Security Seminar for
Developers. The majority of the content (except for the last session)
is applicable to all developers irrespective of language or OS. I
think the content would be useful to your community base as well.
This is not a marketing session at all

Below is the invite. I can send it to you in Word doc format as well.
If you think this valuable can you forward the invite to the java
User Groups in Cape Town and other cities viz Durban, Joburg etc

Thanks

Ahmed

Microsoft Security Seminar for Developers ? March 2004

Features of this One-Day Seminar:

Write code and build applications that are less vulnerable to
security threats. This "must attend" one-day seminar introduces
developers to the knowledge and skills required to identify and
mitigate security threats. The seminar covers the essentials of
security as well as best practices for defending your code against
threats. It also covers security best practices using the .NET
Framework. The information presented is largely relevant to all
developers irrespective of programming platform and operating system

Audience:

The target audience consists of developers and architects of varying
degrees of aptitude and experience who use different programming
languages and platforms. To a lesser extent, business decision makers
and project managers will also benefit from the seminar.

Session Descriptions

1. Essentials of Application Security

In this session, you will gain knowledge and skills essential for the
creation of secure applications. You will learn important security
concepts and the need for implementing security at every stage of the
development process. Additionally, you will learn how to use the
various security technologies to secure data and communications.

2. Writing Secure Code ? Threat Defense

In this session, you will learn established best practices for
applying security principles throughout the development process. You
will learn effective strategies for defending common security threats
such as buffer overruns, cross-site scripting, SQL injection, and
denial of service attacks.

3. Writing Secure Code ? Best Practices

In this session, you will build upon existing knowledge of secure
coding best practices to learn about analyzing, mitigating, and
modeling threats. You will learn about established threat modeling
methodologies and tools and how they can be applied with other best
practices to minimize vulnerabilities and limit damage from attacks.

4. Implementing Application Security by using the .NET Framework

In this session, you will learn how to implement additional security
features to secure applications that are built on the .NET Framework.
You will learn how security features are integrated into the .NET
Framework. You will learn how to use both code access security and
role-based security to limit vulnerabilities. You will also learn how
to use the cryptographic provider support in the .NET Framework to
encrypt and sign data. Additionally, you will learn how to secure Web
applications and Web services that are built by using ASP.NET.
Finally, you will learn a few tips for writing secure code with the
.NET Framework.
