The patch is attached as requested (toolchains configuration is described here http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-using-toolchains.html) You might want to try removing the 'optional' element on the hibernate dependency to compare the resulting dependency tree - I'm not sure which approach is most appropriate. I would welcome any feedback you have. Since I have not tried it, I did not want to risk it. I have developed 'my patch' before yours and, I must admit, I have not looked in details (I've only subscribed recently to this in order to post my findings). With regards to the target and source configuration, my experience has been that it is sufficient to compile something compatible with a given target; e.g. if JODA is still aiming 1.4, the settings should be enough but then I am not too familiar with the inner workings of tools like javassist. Could you send your patch again and I'll have a look. I will try the library with a test scope and report back, looks like we could get the ball rolling soon hopefully.
