Helllo Faisal, thanks alot
That what we talked about today me and Ma'moun Akash, the problem is " you
can't force 84 persons to have the same target"
all the luggers want to learn but by the way they like, many say,
"I don't like to have a lecture -2 hours- for a topic I am not interesting in,
I have different friends to learn from them, I have google, I have books.
Any body in the Lug can teach himself, but what really all the Luggers want is
a word of mouth, I want to know a title of a topic, I don't want Alaa Halasa to
stand 2 hours talking about GWT, just tell me that there is something called
GWT that convert java to javascript, and I can go."
What really will be a successful meeting is a social meeting talking about
general topics, not to discuss the problems of the Lug, NO NO NO, make a
sessions socially. it will be nice experience.
I am sadly telling you that always we have negative feedback for every new
idea.
Dear Luggers, we need for about 6 months social meetings 1 per month (word of
mouth meeting).
We can't build a second floor before the basement. we need to know each other
so we can have different ideas to make the Lug successful.
We don't want anybody to persuade us that his idea is true and the others are
wrong. I am telling you that we need to start correctly with new blood and new
mentality and before anything with freedom
I am sure that if we continue telling ourselves that the lectures are good and
we feel fulfillment from giving lectures (I don't think so) we will failed
I can tell you a roadmap, Guys, and if anybody agree with me just tell us here
we need first to make a powerful social network (about 6 months) then we will
see INTAJ to host us as an IT group (at the first of 2008)
then we will spread as a groups each of them has specific target
I need one person to say yes to start
salam

Subject: [JoLUG-General] Where did we go wrong?

Hello All,

So, after yesterday's lecture, we sat down and started discussing the next one
and we noticed that the luggers were 1) Not asking for topics, 2) Not stepping
up to give lectures, and 3) Not attending lectures. I'm sure that most of you
are well accomplished in the computer industry, but surely there must be
something that you don't know/want to know/can share!!

The thing that perks me the most is, the lug doesn't seem to be appreciative of
the facilities we have, and we definitely are not capitalizing on them. I know
for a fact, that members of other lugs would die to find a suitable place to
meet at on a regular basis. Yet, we have access to fully equipped labs and
simply refuse to use them. There is something wrong in this picture!! If you do
not appreciate what you have, then you are bound to lose it.

After Mousa explained to me the great lengths he and saddam went through to
prepare for the previous lecture, and how only one person showed up, i was
seriously annoyed. If i spent more than six hours in a lab preparing for a
lecture that was announced for 4 weeks, and then nobody showed up, i would
completely give up on the LUG. Not to mention that Mousa is cutting no less
than 3 hours every week of his own personal free weekend time, to try to show
support, and getting a cold shoulder in return.

So, this goes out to everybody (although i'm sure we will only get replies from
the usual few who actually reply... hmm, maybe we should give a lecture about
using mail clients), What exactly is it that you want from the lug?

Social events, not many show up, and nothing of importance happens. We
scheduled bi monthly meetings, and only the first 3 meetings got through.
Lecture, first 2 lectures are stacked, then nobody shows up.
Public awareness campaigns (like the recent one at JU), a handful of people
offered to help.

I just checked and we have 84 members in the jolug google group. Where are
those people? Why is it that anybody that reads our archives thinks that the
lug is only ~20 people? Why is jolug.org
so dead? It's a great site, with great potential, but without user
interaction, it's of no good use to anybody.

So, i'll repeat my question again: What do you want from JoLug?

The next meeting is scheduled on June 1st, it will be held at ITU, and will be
a social event, just trying to figure the mess we are in. One can only hope
that something comes out of it.
