Hello all, I was in a meeting with the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) a couple of days ago, and they want to hold a two day open source workshop in late september. The meeting was attended by the head of the computer department in the RSS, professors from princess sumaya university for technology, jordan university, and university of philadelphia, two companies from the private sector (one deals in natural language processing, the other in web based technologies), fellow lugger Fadi Kahhaleh, and myself. As you can see, the meeting held people from different sides of the industry, and there was genuine interest by all parties to see this thing happen as best as possible.
I was asked to join because of my involvement in open source as well as my connection with the local LUG. I will be acting as liaison to help facilitate the flow of ideas. Currently, we are trying to define the focus of the workshop, and what topics should be covered. Some areas of interest that were proposed include e-government, private sector involvement with open source, and exposing final year students in universities to alternative technologies. Open source as an integral part of an IT infrastructure is also a very important topic. Nothing is set in stone yet, so if you have any ideas about what I just said, or even something that I did not mention, please reply with your comments. -- Al-Faisal El-Dajani 10/6 -- ### Jordan Linux Users Group ### http://Jolug.org/ http://groups.google.com/group/Jolug ### Ubuntu Jordan LoCo Team ### https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JordanTeam http://lists.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-jo ### Ojuba Linux ### http://ojuba.org/ ### Jordan PHP ### http://groups.google.com/group/JoPHP
