Hi Kefah,
Thanks for your enthusiasm. >From memory I believe it'll be in Zara expo. (along side with WebIT exhibition) But we can confirm this sometime early next week inshalla. Through our last meeting, where were thinking of discussing the hot topics in the Open Source community, by that I mean having speakers talk about the latest that is being offered in Open Source, whether it is educational software, community and web 2.0 platforms.etc as well as initial beginners lectures about different flavors of Linux and how to install. We might cover some grounds on VISTA, Moodle and also talk about success stories of the Open Source model (other than RedHat) to show that such a model can help generate income while being Open Source. You are more than welcome to suggest a topic that you would like to talk about, We welcome any help. Please do keep in mind that it is not up to Faisal and I to accept or reject topics as you already know there is a full group of people on this. Looking forward to your creative thoughts. I believe the most important point of all is the where and the when. Have you identified the place where this event is going to be held? If you can only fix this item, the rest is so easy, trust me :) The event can contain two parallel tracks ... A. Topics / lectures B. Installation I can help in many of the other aspect, once the place is granted. - Kefah. 2010/4/28 Al-Faisal El-Dajani <[email protected]> Hello Kefah, It's good to hear a response here. The event will be held in a public place (not a university), and will be open for all to attend. If you have any ideas or thoughts about what topics to cover, which audience to target or any other idea, please feel free to comment. It would be ideal to organize any type of event to increase public exposure and awareness to FLOSS. I think every one would be excited to help out in setting up this workshop. Would it be open for every one? or just for the technical and business crowd? Regards, - Kefah. 2010/4/23 Al-Faisal El-Dajani <[email protected]> Hello all, I was in a meeting with the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) a couple of days ago, and they want to hold a two day open source workshop in late september. The meeting was attended by the head of the computer department in the RSS, professors from princess sumaya university for technology, jordan university, and university of philadelphia, two companies from the private sector (one deals in natural language processing, the other in web based technologies), fellow lugger Fadi Kahhaleh, and myself. As you can see, the meeting held people from different sides of the industry, and there was genuine interest by all parties to see this thing happen as best as possible. I was asked to join because of my involvement in open source as well as my connection with the local LUG. I will be acting as liaison to help facilitate the flow of ideas. Currently, we are trying to define the focus of the workshop, and what topics should be covered. Some areas of interest that were proposed include e-government, private sector involvement with open source, and exposing final year students in universities to alternative technologies. Open source as an integral part of an IT infrastructure is also a very important topic. Nothing is set in stone yet, so if you have any ideas about what I just said, or even something that I did not mention, please reply with your comments. -- Al-Faisal El-Dajani 10/6 -- ### Jordan Linux Users Group ### <http://Jolug.org/> http://Jolug.org/ <http://groups.google.com/group/Jolug> http://groups.google.com/group/Jolug ### Ubuntu Jordan LoCo Team ### <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JordanTeam> https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JordanTeam <http://lists.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-jo> http://lists.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-jo ### Ojuba Linux ### <http://ojuba.org/> http://ojuba.org/ ### Jordan PHP ### <http://groups.google.com/group/JoPHP> http://groups.google.com/group/JoPHP -- Kefah T.
