Hello all,
I want to exchange my experience with
- Enhydra 3.1 as the presentation layer,
- JOnAS 2.2.7 as the EJB layer and
- InterBase 6.0.1 as database layer.
I also use James (open source Java e-mail server)
from Apache for sending mails.
All in one I only use Open Source Java Architecture
in my Open Source Project OpenUSS (www.openuss.org).
OpenUSS manages many documents (pdf, word, excel, etc.)
for our lecture activities. All these documents
are saved within the BLOB field in the database
and I use EJB (JOnAS) for accessing this.
Until now we are handling about 250 - 300 students
with this system simultaneously. They use this system
very often and intensively - especially for downloading
the lecture materials.
Here is our server data:
Windows NT 4, 256 MB memory, Pentium 300 Mhz,
15 GB harddisk.
Here are my impressions:
- Enhydra: The Super Servlet of Enhydra is
really great! Until now the Enhydra app. server
never crashs! I never have to make a new start
for Ehydra's instance! I don't use Director yet.
- InterBase: I only get a problem with InterServer
(JDBC for InterBase), if two or more users are
accessing the same ejb at the same time: Transaction
error, rollback the transaction. I feel that
there is something wrong with the syncronization
of JOnAS - InterBase... Any hints for this?
- James: Superb and very reliable.
- JOnAS: After some days JOnAS incl. the JVM just
crashed with the following message: Out of Memory.
I already increased the heap size of
the JVM until 170 MB. But it just makes
the crash to be delayed for one or two days...
I feel that JOnAS does not free some memory
(memory leak)... or do I have to upgrade
my server hardware?
I plan to migrate to Enhydra Enterprise, because
at this moment I have to start 3 JVM (Enhydra, JOnAS,
James) and this takes a lot of memory.
Do some of you also have this experience with JOnAS?
I would like to know, whether someone also has the
same experience as mine.
