Hi Kakki, The best of birthday greetings to you. I hope you're having a
lovely day.
It was a bit naughty of me to slag the west coast and not explain that what
I meant was the 80's rock sound typified I suppose by Van Halen and pretend
rebels Guns 'n Roses etc. I'd be nuts to deny the greatness of Love, The
Byrds, CSN, Chet Baker, Randy Newman and mile long list of others.
Speaking of west coast, Roger McGuinn was on the radio here this morning
talking and playing records. He said some things of interest. Mr
Tambourine Man was done live in 2 takes by him and the session guys who also
played on most of the Beach Boys and Phil Spector records, whereas it took
the Byrds themselves 70 takes to record Turn Turn Turn. Eight Miles
High is not about drugs but a flight to London and was originally called Six
Miles High but Clarke suggested changing it after he heard The Beatles Eight
Days A Week.
