Thank you, thank you, thank you, folks, for the warm welcome.
Okay, I figured out the 'Hejira' prick, er, pic ... still having trouble with
the 'Clouds' cover, tho. I even yanked out the lp to have a better look-see.
Still, no-go. A hint, perhaps? Is "it" in Joni's hair? Hiding in her
fingers if you look at the picture at a 35.75 degree angle? In the leaves of
the flower? In the river's reflection of the building if you hold it up to a
mirror and squint really, really hard? Maybe David Geffen is hiding in the
bushes in the all togethers and I just can't see him (nor the forest) for the
trees...
Holy mackerel, Bob, that is one totally awesome covers project you overtook!
Absolutely amazing!! I'm trying to pull together a similar project with Laura
Nyro covers. I thought what I had gathered so far was pretty impressive, but
your Joni list totally dwarfs mine. Of course Joni's tunes have had a lot
more coverage, tho, too.
I tried to find something to add to it, but you have it ALL covered! Even my
more obscure titles showed up on your list. But, I could add "Both Sides Now"
by Bola Sete on his 'Working On A Groovy Thing' lp on Paramount Records # PAS
5011. It may very well be the same version you have listed ... my copy has
liner notes written by Ralph Gleason and includes a couple of Beatles tunes,
plus CSN's "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" and Nyro's "Wedding Bell Blues" (if those
clues mean anything to ya).
And I DO have that Nick DeCaro 'Italian Graffiti' album - if you still need
Joni's "All I Want" from it, just lemme know.
Oh, and how about 'The Best of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross' on Columbia #C
32911 from 1974 (previously released as 'The Hottest New Group in Jazz' as CS
8198) collecting the original recordings of "Twisted" (Annie Ross - solo),
"Centerpiece", and "Summertime" (which, we know, Joni sang on 'Herbie
Hancock's 'Gershwin's World' disc)?
And, you could probably go nuts tracking down every little reissue, but, I
also have "Urge for Going" on George Hamilton IV's 'The Best of George
Hamilton IV' album on RCA Victor #LSP-4265 - from 1970 - in case you happen to
be a completist (would that be an understatement? <smile> ).
