36 hours isn't much time to process the horror of the WTC's destruction.
I've been crying on and off the whole time - crying not only for the sadness
of the loss of life of those involved and for the heroism and bravery of
those trying to assist them, but also for the loss of a world view that has
gone unquestioned for a long time.

This is one of those times when paradigms shift, and suddenly I am asking
myself what individual liberties or fundamental freedoms I will be willing
to give up in the interest of the war against terrorism. We are all going
to have to give them up. Once we start, there may be no going back. The
consequences may be far-reaching.

The balance is shifting.
We used to say - it is better that 100 guilty persons go free than to have
one innocent imprisoned wrongly.
Now, we have to at least ask - Is it better to lose something of that if it
can avoid the loss of thousands of innocent lives like those lost yesterday?

I hear the bedrock of our system of justice rumbling like the grounds around
the WTC.
