Here's what I see. We are under attack, serious attack. We are positioning
our military to defend our country and to hover over the countries harboring
the perpetrators. Two weeks and we haven't bombed anyone yet. Most of the
world is standing with us on this one.

If the terrorist was just your average crazed murderer attacking your
neighborhood, would you not try to immediately stop them by whatever means
you could? Would you really think it was better to try to get inside his
head at that moment and justify his actions by saying he was abused and had
suffered so it's not really his fault? Let's say he succeeds in killing
several innocent people in front of your eyes while you are standing by
practicing restraint and trying to understand him. Could you really be
comfortable with that from a moral and ethical standpoint? How about when
he turns around and then comes after you and the only chance you had to stop
him in self-defense was to kill him? Would you stand on your principle and
let him kill you so that you would not be escalating any violence?

I know this situation we are in is complicated and we must be extremely
careful and cautious in how we handle it but let's be realistic, too.
