Hi Sam, welcome to the JMDL, hopefully you'll stick around after you squeeze
this info out of us! ;~)

You say you're working on a piece of fiction, so you should be able to take
liberties with your facts. Given that variable, the time period you're
probably looking at is more like '68-'72, although Joni has championed causes
both environmental & otherwise for decades.

Oftentimes these protests would be held in the main streets, taking the form
of 'parades' so the group protesting could bring attention to themselves.
Sometimes they would take place at the location being targeted; for instance,
if a wooded area was going to be clear cut, the protesters might join hands
and surround a group of trees to prevent equipment from getting through.
Hence the term "tree huggers".

As for numbers and locations, they were all over the place but the west coast
was probably more common. I would think some of our west coast members could
help fill in some gaps.

Anyway, hope that helps...good luck with the assignment! Please let us know
how you do with it.

Bob
