<<I was too shocked by the child's horrendous manners, and the mother's cheerful
complicity, to say anything. But if anything like this ever
happens to me again, I will be ready to tell child and parent exactly where to go and
what to do when they get there!

..and the cycle of bad manners will continue. Better to educate both to the woman and
the child in the error of their ways in a kind and polite manner and hope upon hope
that something rubs off.

I agree with you Bob, that incident was particularly nasty but I think the smoking
issue is a smokescreen(!). I too have been horrified recently by the bad manners of
women and their children, ranging from kids eating chocolate in the supermarket before
goods have been paid for to pushing in queues and vandalising trains, all in full view
of parents with nothing said. People really do let their children 'frisk like deer'.
Part of the general malaise maybe. The trouble these days is if you try and educate
people to do the right thing you are accused of moralising or being 'PC'. Oh well.
