Hi Walt, > I believe you mentioned to me/us that you share JW (with me) as a songwriting > hero -- what's the name of the book, when did it come out, etc? And is there > a particularly good anthology of his stuff out?
The book came out in '98 and the title is "Tunesmith - Inside the Art of Songwriting." I think you'd love this book. Not only is it full of songwriting insight, it is also full of great personal stories and sections about Joni, Carly, Burt and more. It has received rave reviews. The only sheet music I've personally seen on Jimmy was from a special collectors edition "souvenir" book he put out in the 80s, I think, and an old Glen Campbell songbook. I'm sure his songs can be found elsewhere, however, like in a Garfunkel songbook, etc. He has a discussion board on jis website jimmywebb.com where you might inquire about more resources. The people on that board are experts, of course! ;-) >I'm in the market for more sheet music, and JW and Laura Nyro are at the top of my list. Any > recommendations? There is an incredible "Music of Laura Nyro" songbook that is out of print. It covers First Songs through Christmas and the Beads of Sweat. It comes on eBay occasionally but usually goes for a steep price. > I'm thouroughly familiar with JW's stuff from the 60's (e.g., all of his > stuff for the 5th Dimension, and I also had a couple of his own albums, and I > think one he mostly wrote and produced for Art Garfunkel), but lost track > track of him somewhere along the line. You must get Webb's "Ten Easy Pieces" from around '96. Many who have heard it put it in their top 10 of all time. Kakki
