Hi Bob,
> That's true, because I think Joni keeps all those secrets deep in her own
heart. Whenever an interviewer tries to 'pry' about >those sorts of things,
Joni's quick to shut it down or divert. So the only clues we get are
typically from others who let >something slip tangentially.
Just to clarify, Joni was personally interviewed for the CSNY, Crosby, etc.
books and she talks very open and freely! Maybe she feels more at ease when
the purpose of the discussion is not as focused directly on her.
> As for "Trouble Child", I really don't think it's ONLY about Crosby.
Surely his experiences were an influence. Like so many >of her songs, it's a
composite (which is how WE can relate to it) that folks want to point at an
individual.
Right, I think his circumstances at the time provided her a vivid
inspiration for a not uncommon theme that I think most everyone has
experienced ("friends" who maybe are dragging you down, taking advantage of
you, etc., and the part you play in it all). I have not had nearly the
colorful life of Crosby but I could totally relate to the song in many ways,
too.
