I would think becasue although your common language is English, many nationalites were involved. I have noticed that people from, I think, Minnesota, sound very like people from Scandinavia do when they speak English. I think this state had a lot of scandanavian settlers. It may not be Minnesota but I think you will know the state I mean if not.
