Mike asks: "Also, what does the third verse mean "daddy. Let's get some girls, one for you and one for me"? It's not important (I think) but I'd like to know its meaning."
I think this is the part of the song that points most definitively at Jackson Browne - his son was 3 years old when his first wife committed suicide. Some have inferred that Joni was implying that Jackson was in some way responsible for his wife's death. At any rate, I've always found this part of the song way, way, way beneath someone of Joni's talent - if indeed it is a reference to Jackson's motherless child. Jackson is a big boy and can take his lumps (pun intended), but leave the kid out of it.
