>connect Joni Mitchell to Bruce Cockburn Joniphiles - I've been doing a lot of research for the "Today in History" section of the JMDL and can jump in on this one (albeit late) with another connection.
Joni -> "3's a Crowd" -> Bruce Cockburn This connection goes back to the early days in Toronto. In a nutshell, Joni appeared on a television show called "Our Kind of Crowd" (along with Richard Pryor) in November of 1967. This show was hosted by a group called "3's a Crowd". At this time, the group was recording their first album, which included a cover of Bruce Cockburn's song "Bird Without Wings". In July of 1968 the band went through some personnel changes and asked Bruce to join the group. "3's a Crowd", with Bruce, went on the road as the opening act for The Turtles and Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, as well as a one-off engagement supporting Grand Funk Railroad. The group broke up in April of 1969. The group's history is quite a fascinating story about the early Toronto days with Neil Young, Steve Stills, and Joni references sprinkled here and there. It can be read in great detail starting here: http://www.jmdl.com/today/ttextsearchresults.cfm?searchstring=pryor Once there, click on the picture of Joni (or the links) for all the info.
