Hello All-
I am So high right now that I just have to share tonight with all of you.
Mikey's baseball team (The Destrehan Gators) was the number one seed in the
league going into the playoffs last week (with only one loss). They one all
of the playoff games and played the championship game tonight. A few games
ago Jack happened by the ball park while we were playing in a stretch limo
to give Mikey and Julian a ride home. The team were in awe of their pals of
course so I told them that IF they won the championship game that I would
spring for a limo ride to go eat pizza. The game tonight was one of the most
incredible experiences of my life. They batted first and scored 3 runs
first, but then the other team (who were really really good) tied. Then we
went ahead again and then they got a grand slam and went ahead. It was back
and forth for 5 innings. Mikey made some incredible defensive plays at third
base and then w3as asked to go to catcher where he made more amazing heads
up plays. In the top of the 6th inning they were down by one and two outs.
The batter was a player on our team who has struggled terribly at bat all
season and has struck out umteen times. I am sure many of the players and
parents thought we had had it, but I know a lot of us optimists were still
praying and sending positive thoughts and with a full count he swung and got
a base hit with 2 RBI's giving us the go ahead run. BUT the other team still
had another at bat. We walked two and then they got a hit. We got two outs
and then one of their best batters was up (with the Grand Slam guy right
behind him). Once again we were forced into a full count situation with
everyone biting their nails. Our man on the mound was a very inexperienced
pitcher as was the starter of the game. Our two main pitchers could not
pitch because of league rules that limits them and forces teams to use more
pitchers, but both these guys did and outstanding job against all odds. Our
boy threw the third strike and the game was over. Every player on that team
contributed to this season one way or the other. I am so honored by that
fact and so very proud of each and every kid on the team and the coaches.
Jack pulled up after the game in a stretch NaviGATOR (with Gator signs on
the sides) and whisked them off to Cici's Pizza for an after game party.
Those kids had the time of their lives and boy do they deserve it.
Just had to share my joys with all of you and let you know that I miss
you all and have not participated with you cause of my bizzare schedule with
the likes of (just in the last two weeks): Merle Haggard, Andy Griggs, Earth
Wind and Fire, Kool and The Gang, Pointer Sisters, Thelma Houston, Dennis
Quaid, David Allen Coe, 12 Stones (great band watch for the videos at House
of Blues), Norman Brown, Impromt2, Rashanna Patterson, blah blah blah.
Anyways, the vacation is the light at the end of tunnel. Also looking
forward to Jonifest and seeing many of you there. Jack said tonight he is
really coming. My best to you all.
