> This isn't about the F word, it seems to me, but about the C word. The word > is used over here as a very coarse term of abuse, for men or women equally;
In the area of East London where I lived for 20 years, or rather by those directly around me, the word was very common usage by young and old and men and women alike. It was not often used as an abusive term. If someone was really angry they would use the word 'nonce'. Believe it or not, friends would use hte word in sentences like, 'whatya doin C...', 'hey, c...have seen ya for ages...' etc etc I got used to it. I doubt in better areas of london it is used like that. I didn't ever quite get used to it but only because I viewed it as crude. I didn't get used to women old enough to be my mother or gandmother or men of the same age group, using it! I never heard of it as an expression of hatred toward women. Still, I would have preferred an explanation of why it offended Debra rather than an attack on my character by a friend.
