Garret, great idea! I had been reminiscing about the time I found Joni a few nights back - such a sweet time. It was 1986 and I just got my driver's license so I was spending alot of time driving around and listening to the local oldies station in my hometown in upstate New York. I remember driving up the last big hill in my neighborhood on the way to my house and Help Me came on the radio. From the first chord I was in such awe of what I was hearing I actually had to pull over to the side of the road to listen to the rest of the song. Who IS this???!!!, I was asking myself. The song finished and the D.J. identified the song and singer - Joni Mitchell, from the album Court and Spark. Wow. Never even heard her name before. A few weeks later I was driving around town again and Free Man and Paris came on the radio. I wasn't forced to pull over this time, but I was listening again in awe, thinking, WOW who's this?! Well, the D.J. again said Joni Mitchell from her album Court and Spark. WELL! , I thought I have to go buy Court and Spark then! So I picked it up at the record store, brought it home, and put it on the turntable. I listened to the song Court and Spark and was just floored - it just cracked open my musical world. I listened to that song alone over and over for the next hour. Then for the rest of the night, I just played the first three songs on C&S over and over and over....sigh, it was love at first sight...er listen.
