I can't help but wonder if Joni Mitchell is in any way the inspiration for
the new movie, "The Banger Sisters" starring Goldie Hawn and Susan
Sarandon. I was up in the balcony for the taping of "An All Star Tribute to
Joni Mitchell" in April 2000, and I was struck by the frequent, friendly
exchanges between two of the audience members near the stage that night:
Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon. Susan Sarandon spoke during the evening,
introducing one of the pre-taped segments about Joni (focusing on her gifts
as a songwriter, I believe) and then she introduced a barefoot k.d. lang.
Goldie Hawn, however, didn't participate officially, but she was grooving in
her seat and appeared to be having a great time with her son, Wyatt.
Sometime later, I heard that these two women were planning to make a movie
about two aging rock groupies--probably around the time "Almost Famous"
(with GH's daughter, Kate Hudson) was released.
Well, in case you're counting, this is my second post to the JMDL. No puns
this time ("The Banger Sisters" hits theaters, for example)--I learned my
lesson. Mostly, I prefer "lurkdom."
