Some people call them melons in English too.

That's pretty amusing, considering what it means in
English - either the sound of rain falling down (with
pitter, as in pitter-patter) or the sound of baby
footsteps (the pitter-patter of little feet), or a
kind of speaking, as in a comedian doing a monologue -
we call it his/her patter.

To me, it sounds more French than English. It sounds
like French baby-talk. It's also French slang for a
gay man - it's a babyish or slang version of "tante."
Yes, in French they refer to gay men as aunts.

You'll probably be sorry you asked. ;)

P.S. I just want to add that I was going to be at
jonifest this year, but unfortunate circumstances
prevented this at the last minute, so I didn't hear
you sing in person. Nevertheless, I've listened to
the clips of you singing. I'm sure you've heard it
many times, but what's one more? What a lovely voice
you have - you could probably make the vulgar language
sound wonderful.
