If sampling means sounding like another act, then "Back in the USSR" has that 
Beach Boys-sounding part. But I always thought that sampling meant actually 
using the original recording within a new work. And in the case of "The Beat 
of Black Wings," that's Joni singing "Johnny/Charlie Angel" -- it's not 
Shelley Fabres' original recording being played -- so I wouldn't call it 
sampling. 

So my question is . . . what's the real definition of sampling?
