I haven't had a chance to listen to the new Tom Petty album yet, but based upon what
I've read, it is Tom bashing the music business. A couple of the articles I've read
praised Tom for fearlessly taking on the music industry.

I find it interesting that when others try this, they come across as some sort of
heros (Pearl Jam vs. Ticketmaster also comes to mind), but when Joni does it, they
portray her as some cranky old bitch, biting the hand that feeds her.

But I guess that's the way they've always treated her. She dappled in jazz, and they
thought she was crazy. Later on, Sting tried the same thing, and he's a 'genius'.

She used African drummers on the Jungle Line, and people think she's gone wacky. Paul
Simon used African musicians years later, and he's made the album of the year.

Etc. Etc.

I guess I'd be a little cranky, too.
