Simple arithmetics: in order to get media attention 5

These numbers are just an example but you get the idea.
Who's to blame: Short attention spans? Journalists? Violent
movies? All of the above?

and now me:

Laurent, I think your math is off. The number of Tutsis
for example is at least 750,000 and even that did not
really catch American attention, even though the killing of
750,000 Tutsis happened within the last 10 years, I am sure
most Americans could not tell you where that happened, or
that they even remember it. I think you are also way low
on the other numbers too. And our current administration
ran in the last campaign opposed to American peace keeing
troops being in Bosnia despite the massacres there. Hell,
more than twice as many people were killed in one day at
Srebrenica then werte killed on September 11 and who
remebers that even though that also was within the last 10
years.

We are a self-absorbed people. If you asked Americans to
identify Anna Nicole Smith, Kelly Clakson, Srebrenica, and
where 750,000 Tutsis were slaughtered, most could only
answer the first two.

And that is just the way it is. Its sad.
