I would agree with Bob's advice. Be open to what they're listening to as
well. My 18 year old son has turned me on to a lot of what he lisens to
because I'm receptive, and I actually like some of it. Conversely he is
more open to listening to what I like - consequently, he thinks Neil Young
is THE MAN, and I have to keep retrieving my Joni CDs from his room! I even
found a Cat Stevens album on the turntable one day - good heavens, the
apocalypse may be near.

As for the younger ones, I have a 12 year old daughter and she went through
the boy band phase - so did I at that age, it's just that the boy band back
then was the Beatles. I remember how crazed I was, so I tried to not
belittle her taste too much - I even bought her the CDs and listened to them
with her. Fortunately, she is over that now, and is moving on to rap metal
<sigh>. But, the point is that I see a growing sophistication and I'm sure
her older brother is no small influence there - and hopefully I can
influence her a little as well. She still groans loudly and rolls her eyes
whenever I play Joni, but she admitted to me one day that the song "A Case
of You" is not so bad and she "kinda" likes it.

Well, there's my free advice - worth just what it costs.
