Hi Gene, > hello all, kate your right! this is not a referendum for bush, a minority > of voters voted.
I tried to find this "20% of the electorate voted for GOP" on the Moveon site but couldn't locate it. Was this a email that went out to subscribers? I am also on a political email list and read all day yesterday of record turn-out all over the U.S. Where I voted there was 4 times the usual number of people and a long wait for the voting booth. I would think that anyone (who wasn't incapacitated or otherswise prevented from voting) who did not vote yesterday must not really care that much one way or another. It may not be a mandate or a referendum for Bush, but there has to be some kind of message in there, don't you think? This was an historic win for Republicans and they astonishingly won in several longstanding Democratic party regional strongholds. I know some of you may hate to hear it but I have 20 friends and co-workers (all female and all but one Hispanic or African American) who have switched from lifelong Dems to Repubs. since November 2000. You can note it or dismiss it. Kakki
