Egads. This is bad news indeed when people can't express a negative opinion about Joni's work without fear of reprisals.
We can't all like everything, Joni's music covers too many musical styles for that. Flame me if ya like, but I dislike most of her material from the 80s. If we're all expected to unconditionally like everything, we also look, to the outside world, like a bunch of sad obsessives. That'd be Bad [tm]. So, anyway. Rolling back around to Travelogue, as I listen to it more, I start to mentally imagine it as more of a stage show than a mere record. The arrangements of some songs are very much like an opera or musical. It's curious, but not unpleasant. And I'm really getting into this version of "Slouching", which left no impression in its original form. All I want now is for her to come and play the Royal Albert Hall in London, with the LSO. That'd be nice :) --Chris
