what a great thread! while much of Manila was besieged by typhoon Seniang
(local name) and those impeachment proceedings for our President (who
should have remained an actor and must have misread his future which said
the Philippines wants an `action man' not an `action star'... but I
digress), here are my choices. late but worth the mention.
FAVE PIANISTS
1. Tim Story
His playing moves me to tears. There's something ineffably sad about his
melodies but, oh so touchingly rendered.
2. Scott Cossu
I like his SHE DESCRIBES INFINITY album and I like the concept he created
for his albums. Wholistic. Almost like short stories.
3. Fred Simon
I love you too, maaaan!
4. George Shearing
His PIANO and GRAND PIANO albums are beautiful evocations of what a piano
can do when words can no longer express the nuance of feelings.
5. Fred Hersch
Impressionistic. Light as a feather. But whose pianism lingers long before
the CD was finished.
