i picked up Plumb and Live back in the spring. gave Plumb to a friend and
kept Live. over time, i really found myself wanting to listen to Live more
and more. i've been listening to parts of it daily since august.
a few weeks ago i picked up Plumb again and listened through it several
times. there are three songs that run in sequence..inconsolable...no
better...west point. all three are really really really beautiful songs.
inconsolable has this sublte jazz piano that runs through out the song but
really picks up toward the end and is just wonderful. lot's of dischord
against the grain of the song..while the guitars hold steady with a lot of
breathing space and cymbals in the background. her songs in general have a
lot of breathing space which i love.
no better has this rocky little beat to it and her voice jumps ranges like
joni. her voice is really interesting on this song. at times she sounds
like sinead. other times..like joni. then, west point was on Live so i knew
it already and it's probably my favorite for the month. a neat song.
what i'm saying is that i can't imagine a joni mitchell fan not liking either
of these two cds. i love them both. patrick
