Oh, speaking of wallowing, you made me think of a song I used to love to
wallow in both listening to and then learning to play over & over.
"Rainbow Sleeves" (sung by Rickie Lee Jones though written by Tom Waits I
think). Its a sort of hopeful meloncholy song. Paraphrased here from memory
so forgive me if its not exact:
"and the moon can not make love to you but I believe
that your heart will give you wings I'm told
to keep you from ever growing old
and a heart that has been broken
will be stronger when it mends
don't let your blues keep you from singing
cause darling you only have broken wings
you just hang on to my rainbow, hang on to my rainbow
you just hang on to my rainbow sleeves..."

Oh yes, Michael McDonald - I bought all his albums, Doobie or not, in the
70s and 80s. Ahhhh - his music also made me feel jubilant more often than
not, too.
I thought of another song that is probably obscure but always got me all
weepy and sniffling - "Brighter Days" by Kenny Loggins. I used to play that
one over and over and also played it on my guitar. I'd sit there singing
and wallowing in it. I guess it was one of those "comfort in melancholy"
songs for me. The lyrics are simple, but the music is beautiful, and the way
Kenny sings it just devastates me. What a song.
