Mags,

I'm so sorry to hear the sad news about your friend. There are a lot of
reasons why someone commits suicide. Sometimes they want to punish someone
that they love. Unfortunately suicide is final. Those who are seriously ill
with depression are at high risk for suicide. Hospitalization alone does not
prevent that possibility. It takes time for medication/treatment to take
effect. The involvement of family and friends is an important part of the
treatment. From what your telling me, that hadn't even begun. This persons
family should have voiced their concerns about the discharge. It seems to me
this person should not have been left alone. It's unfortunate that this
hospital did not do a better job of intervention, diagnosis and treatment for
your friend. There has to be a support system in place before a patient is
released from the hospital.
