I am a singer/songwriter always on the look out for new inspiration (Joni
was my first).
Do you have Patty Griffin? I have heard much about her from other female
singer/songwriters & finally got her first cd Living With Ghosts. WOW. I
can't stop playing it. (I love Aimee Mann too).
Its pretty much her voice & guitar (the more recent one Flaming Red is a
full production- I have only heard samplets of this one). Patty has elements
of Rickie Lee Jones, Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin & Bonnie Raitt in her
music.
BTW, I love Rickie Lee Jones & don't think she is anything like Joni. Much
less cerebral. The albums others have mentioned are all good. I don't have
her new one yet though. Jonatha Brooke is another wonderful
singer/songwriter as is Patty Larkin.
And while we are talking about other singer/songwriters, even though he is a
guy, I have 2 words- JOHN GORKA!
