>and today the big bowl game for me is the Citrus Bowl, my Michigan
Wolverines versus the Auburn whatever they are. That will be my tense 3 1/2
hours today
Hello Rev Vince,
I must first say that I would have never entertained the thought of going to
the Citrus Bowl today even though it's only 25 minutes away and only $10
bucks to park. I'm a huge Florida Seminole fan and not especially familar
with "Northern teams." However, as a result of a remarkable accident (sort
of), at 1:00 p.m. today (kick-off time), eight of my friends and family were
smack-dab in the middle of a sea of Blue and Gold Michigan fans, and only
one section away from their WONDERFUL marching band. How I love college
bands!
[Incidental, but important part of story.] After seeing "Cast Away" on
Friday night, I was especially surprized when the FedEx man knocked on my
front door very early Saturday morning with a FedEx Box containing an
envelope with EIGHT Citrus Bowl tickets for this game. My father-in-law was
sending us a couple of Citrus Bowl tickets through a broker as a surprise.
Why? Who knows. Anyway, it turns out that the broker made a mistake and
sent us eight tickets instead of two. When he realized the mistake, it was
too late. Those tickets had a $60.00 face value! So then I'm on the phone
trying to find 6 people who might want to go see Michigan vs. Auburn with
us.
> Lets Go Blue!
It was a beautiful, cold and super fun day. I didn't even know that the
name of Michigan's team is the "Wolverines." What a fun and classy bunch
of fans! AND, what an incredibly exciting game! Many of Michigan's
incredible plays, a lot of the scoring happened at our end of the field!
At first I didn't know what Michigan's fight song was, and then the band
struck up "Hail to the Victors"! I couldn't believe that not only did I
know this tune by heart - I even knew some of the words. My husband
explained that it's one of the best known college fight songs in the
country, right up there with Notra Dame's. I bet you didn't relax until the
last five minutes of the 4th quarter. I didn't. By the way - the Auburn
fans were quite rude (booing a lot), and I just had to pull for Michigan,
since they were surrounding us and blue gold are such pretty colors :-) The
only bad part was the rapping boy band "Take Five" at half-time.
>and if you saw the large Michigan Go Blue blanket I use as a wall hanging
in my >living room, you'd realize my decorating scheme is revealing of my
child-like fan->dom
My husband has a lovely garnet, gold and white plastic Florida Seminole
helmet lamp by his side of the bed, not to mention vanity license plate,
etc.
Congratulations to you and your Michigan Wolverines! Please say a special
football prayer for Florida State University Seminoles (GO NOLES!!!!!) who
will play the Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday night for the National
Championship!
Happy New Year!
Bev Wolfe - cold and happy in Florida (humming "Hail to the Victors" in her
head)
P.S. It's Auburn Tigers
