I know the song you mean. It's on her first album which to be honest I was
a bit lukewarm about. But "Welcome".her second album was a different story
entirely. It was one of the best albums of the mid 70s. Aretha's band
played on it and Jerry Wexler produced. Ronee really found her voice on
it both as a songwriter and singer. She sounded warm, passionate and sexy.
The song She Lays It On The Line is reckoned to be about Joni. In the end
Wexler went cold on the album and Warners made a mess of the marketing. The
ads emphased the Barbara Jean connection, so the rock fans thought it was a
country record. Rolling Stone dismissed it in a one paragraph review and
there it seems ended the career of a real musical talent.
