I watched the first episode tonight. It is just as superb as we have
come to expect from Ken Burns. Some have criticized Wynton Marsalis's
contribution, but I think he is perfect.

Speaking of Wynton Marsalis.... The (real) gold trumpet he plays during
some of his comentaries, the same one he debuted at the Olympic Games in
Atlanta was built right here in Portland, Oregon by the Monet trumpet
makers. The place where I work shares the same parking area with their
employees. We often see celebrities come and go from their shop. One day
I was pulling out in my car to go to lunch, and two guys were playing
basketball in the small parking area. One of them was an employee of the
trumpet maker shop. The other was Wynton Marsalis.
