I thought Hoffman's performance was good, but I thought it was one of those
roles that a lot of people could have done well and got a Grammy for, if
they'd done a half-decent job! It was just one of those great roles. Mind
you, my respect for Leonardo Dicaprio went up a LOT after seeing "What's
Eating Gilbert Grape." He does an absolutely superb job of playing Johnny
Depp's intellectually handicapped brother - a far more demanding role than
Hoffman's, who was more of an eccentric than anything.
And no, I haven't seen Chocolat - it's being released here this week!
