Yes, he has been, Jimmy...he has a passion for music, he loves Richard
Rodgers in particular, but also Gershwin, Ella, and Broadway. I grew up
surrounded by great music, and was also taught to read lyrics like "You've
Got To be Carefully Taught" and appreciate a good song.
A couple of years ago, we were at a beachhouse, drinking some brews and
listening to Hejira. I pointed out the brilliance of lines like:
People will tell you where they've gone,
They'll tell you where to go
But til you get there yourself...
You never REALLY know
He was as awed at Joni's words as he was at Larry Hart's...he was also a big
Lennon/McCartney fan and used to buy Beatles records for my sister, just so
he could listen to them.
So, like we've been saying (and I've enjoyed all the posts), exposing our
children to musical appreciation is a joy and a responsibility, and one of my
greatest joys.
If not for my Dad, I would probably not have been able to appreciate Joni,
and I wouldn't be here. So, I suppose you're right in saying that he's an
important contributor to the JMDL...
Thanks, Pop! :~)
Bob, all sentimental after seeing "You Can Count On Me", one of the best
films I've seen in a long time....
