>>> << Enya's music might not float my boat personally, but she has a
huge* following>>
<massive snippage>
I fully realize that this is my humble and wholly subjective opinion,
but I was surprised that even a mention of Enya would surface on a
list of people who have recognized, and pay tribute to, an artist as
magnificent as Joni. Enya is not even in the same universe as Joni,
much less in the same league.
Again, I realize this is one man's view - but I just don't understand
how someone who has had their soul touched by Ms. Mitchell, could even
listen to Enya's airy, soulless, substance-less, 'ball-less', drivel -
much less 'like' it!?? But hey - who am I to say anything negative
about the 'queen of new age'. <<<
I don't often have negative things to say on this list, for the most
part I find it to be intellectually stimulating and pleasant to read
and participate in. However, (didn't you just know that was coming?)
this particular post touched off a nerve in me and I just have to say
this: How fucking elitist can you get? So you don't like the woman's
contribution to the music scene... that's your prerogative, it's not
your cup of tea... no problem, you're entitled to feel any way you
like about any music in the world but to try to kiss the asses of the
Joni lovers on the list by saying that we, who are supposed to be
"musically superior," shouldn't even be remotely interested in music
you don't like makes my blood pressure rise to the point of being
unforgivably rude.
Who the hell made you the god of what we can and cannot listen to? I
am not particularly fond of Enya, so I'm not coming to her defense
here, what I AM trying to say is how dare you judge anyone's taste in
music? Just because YOU aren't fond of someone does not dismiss their
artistry for the rest of the world. It's obvious you don't know a
whole lot about what you term as the "'aroma therapy & crystals'
crowd" they are just as likely to listen to Apocolyptica, Peter
Gabriel, David Bowie, Bach, The Cult, Crowded House, Stevie Ray
Vaughan, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Muddy
Waters as they are Enya; everything in it's place and time.
Yes, Joni is undoubtedly queen, in my book and many others on this
list, but she is not the be all and end all of the musical kingdom.
