A little chuckle I'd like to share:
My partner Mary lived for years in Seattle and of course has friends
there. One is a nurse (Nat) who not long ago adopted a little girl from
China. Janie is almost 4 now, and she's learning English quickly but is
obviously still a bit behind her American peers.
Nat called last night to let us know they were safe and told me that at
the time of the quake, she and Janie were sitting on the floor playing.
Suddenly the foundation of the house began to shake.
After it was over, Janie turned to Nat and said very clearly, "Pee-pee,
Mama."
