good day, all! Steve Dulson wrote: "Unlike my buddy Kakki, I liked Tom Scott et al at the MOA shows. I liked Joni's sound being expanded beyond the solo stuff. However, I don't think the TS & TLAX Joni material has aged well. A lot of MOA seems to be the band saying "here, listen to ME!!" Compare it to the exquisitley (sp) understated work of the Blade/Isham/Klein/ Liesz ensemble of the '98 shows - they played incredibly well, but everything they did served the singer and the song - there was no showing off." I was a big fan of Tom Scott and the LA Express before his hooking up w/ Ms. Mitchell. Had all their releases on vinyl. I was absolutely thrilled with the pairing, as I figured this would take Joni to a completely new level, and IMHO, where she belonged! Misles of Aisles is still one of my most played JMs. I do agree that some of the Tom Scott sound is a bit dated now. But is was a brilliant sound- he and Joni- @ the time. My current tastes, of course have changed as I have aged, and I find the Blade/Isham et al, the perfect backing for JM. Paz was kind enough to send me A Day in the Garden- love it, and have played it, really, every day since I received it! Just brilliant! Stephen in Vancouver Steve- hang on to those loonies for your next trip to Vanc.
