Whoa there! You're not implying that you had to buy a new hard drive *because*
the ICQ install went belly up, are you? That's, to all intents and purposes,
not possible. 

I used to run ICQ happily under NT4, at various service pack levels. So, with the
greatest of respect, while there *might* have been a fault with the version of
ICQ you had, there might equally well have been a fault with your NT installation
itself, or indeed your existing hard disc. M$ software is famously good at lunching 
itself without any extraneous help from the user! All it takes to show up the 
self-mutilation is some bit of software to tickle it the wrong way... Likewise,
a dodgy hard disc may look just fine for ages, until something tries to write
to some broken bit of disc, at which point all hell breaks loose.

I still, in fact, run ICQ quite happily under Windows 2000, which from the point 
of view of the application, is pretty much the same as Windows NT.

I think that, in the majority of cases, people can expect far more mileage from
ICQ than you were unfortunate enough to get.
