And while it didn't bowl me over, it IS interesting that SO many bands from
ALL genres feel like they *have* to do a Joni tune. Not because they're
making fun of her...out of homage, out of DEBT to her.
I got a CD in the mail today from a band called "Kind of Like Spitting". Very
different, raw acoustic sparse-sounding kind of stuff. The title of the first
song is "Fuck Liz where are you". The title of the last track is
"Instinctually restricted the animal will bolt". Here's the kicker...
Track 6 is "The Last time I Saw Richard"!! And it's a pretty straight-up
version, REALLY different guitar arrangement...
My point of the ramble is that what this "Covers" project has reinforced to
me is just how influential Joni has been in the world of music. It's truly
phenomenal!
