Dear Friends,
This is such a fun list. I love the camaraderie and erstwhile jesting.
I have a lot of stress in my life which I won't bore you with, and I
find joy in remembering simpler times.
In my 20's I spent a lot of time with good friends listening to Joni.
We used to frequent a sandwich shop in Long Beach called "Mike's
Munchies." It first opened in the very early '70's on Long Beach
Boulevard. You had to be hip to know what the "Munchies" part of the
name meant. I was saddened by its closure as it was in my favorite "pan
handling" area and they served great soup.
I was hitching a ride with friends one day and a driver picked us up and
asked if we
would like to go to lunch. He took us to Mike's Munchies, lo and behold
there was a bigger than life sized mural of Joni on the wall. Mike's
had
reopened in a very exclusive shopping area near Hwy. 101 between the
Naples area and Seal Beach. They played Joni quite often. Anyone else
know of it? I would love to hear of it.
Love & Peace, Barbara Hirahara
