This is sad news. I've mentioned here before the video I have of the Mamas
and Papas - and a lot of it is interviews with John. He mentions the album
he was making with Mick and Keith, and that it never got made because they
were either to busy (a) waiting for the drugs, (b) taking the drugs, or (c)
enjoying the effects of the drugs. It was pretty amazing that he managed to
turn his life around like he did, and sad that he never got to see this
album released.
The video also shows footage of him in the midst of organising Monterey - on
the phone, frantically trying to get hold of people.
I still get shivers watching him describe Cass Elliot's funeral, and how he
fell apart and pounded on the casket. A pretty amazing man. RIP.
