While I think you're right about the Australian Tourist Bureau,
Gerald, I think we can (and should) claim Daevid Allen as an Aussie.
I was pleased to see that Ian McFarlane gives him quite a sizeable
entry in his excellent  encyclopaedia of Australian rock music. Allen
returned to Australia for a number of years during the 1980s, before
heading back to Britain and forming another version of Gong that's
still touring. He is a really interesting musician IMO. Even spent
time with William Burroughs in Paris in the early 1960s at the famous
Beat Hotel!
